Elizabeth Howard, Project Consultant, Construction and Building Industry Services, Chisholm Institute, confirmed training needs analysis was conducted across Victorian organisations during 2016. Skills requirements were identified at different levels from semi-skilled to highly skilled carpenters, designers and managers.
“Skilled recruits to semi-skilled positions in insulated panel manufacture and installation are proven to reduce on the job training time from an estimated seven to eight weeks to a couple of days,” said Howard.
“Chisholm has developed the Work-ready Skill Set in Panelised Building Construction to answer this and is leading the charge to bring modern methods of building construction across all Vocational Education and Training (VET) construction qualifications,” she said.
“Qualified carpenters who understand differences between on-site and offsite construction sequencing, systems and product have a strong employment advantage in the panelised building sector.”
Chisholm training aims to promote the importance of resource efficiency in building and covers “as wide a range of insulated panels and complimentary product as possible.”
Howard confirmed a number of businesses and organisations are playing a role in fine-tuning the Institute’s offering.
“Impresa House, Casafico, Askin Performance Panels, NU-Tek, Wood Solutions, Timber Imagineering, PRYDA, Xlam, Metro Pre-cast Concrete and MBAV have all made considerable contribution in advice and review of the development, implementation and outcomes of the training.”■
