Measuring 325 square metres, the $3.5 million mezzanine floor project for the Guardian Early Learning Centre, Brisbane, is the first major CLT installation in Queensland.
The upgrade was designed by BVN Architecture for Lendlease Development. Strongbuild supplied Binderholz CLT panels for the mezzanine floor.
According to a statement released by timber industry initiative Woodsolutions, George Bellas, Project Manager from Apollo Property Group, the principal contractor for the fit-out, confirmed that both construction program and the final cost of the installed floor were reduced by approximately 20-30% each, thanks to reduced need for trades onsite and the ability to work continuously without waiting for concrete curing.
High-performing engineered timber and prefabricated structural elements at play in the Guardian Early Learning Centre, Brisbane.
Arden Architectural Staircases was contracted by Apollo Property Group for the installation of the CLT floor panels. David Wilson, Special Projects Manager at Arden, reportedly indicated that the project demonstrated the new opportunities and benefits available to clients, through high-performing engineered wood products and prefabricated structural elements.■
