Speedpanel, a Melbourne based specialist in fire and acoustic rated wall systems, recently completed one of the six acoustic sheds in Melbourne’s CBD. Part of Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel project, the future State Library Station shed with dimensions of 22 metres high, 74 metres long and 24 metres wide, is fully enclosed with Speedpanel walls and ceiling systems.
A statement from Speedpanel confirmed the systems will deliver outstanding acoustic performance in order to reduce noise, dust and light during the extensive 11-storey shaft excavation of the tunnel, which will take place round the clock over the coming months.
“The construction of the 6,000 square metre Speedpanel system required a great deal of coordination as the panels were required to be installed from inside the structural steel supports, starting 20 metres up in the air, with an assortment of scissor and boom lifts. The sub-contracting team still managed to install an impressive 200 square metres per day with minimal labour and disruption to the rest of the huge site.”
“This project has been a win for the Victorian public and economy using a product that is Australian designed, owned and manufactured in Victoria.”■
