LICENCED IP TO FACILITATE OFFSITE SOLUTIONS

BUILDING RESEARCH ORGANISATION UNIBUILD TECHNOLOGY HAS MADE ITS UNIQUE INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY AVAILABLE TO THE MARKET UNDER LICENCE.

Unibuild, which is a member of prefabAUS, has been engaged in the design and construction of offsite modular low rise buildings since 1968. Founder Peter Smith confirmed the company’s proprietary technology converts traditional design to modular design.

“This opens up the construction process for maximum offsite modular prefabrication,” he said. “Our clients are typically low rise developers. We already have over 300 client projects that have been converted in this manner.” “It is now time to make our technology available to the offsite industry.”

“Based on the ‘lego’ principle, our process enables the off-site prefabrication of most of the building components for faster and better delivery of the construction project.” Smith confirmed the Unibuild IP, available under licence for US $25,000, allowed the elimination of traditional materials and trades in favour of insulated floor, wall and roof panels.

“The materials required are cement, fine concrete sand, steel fibre reinforcing, and polystyrene sheets. Users would need a concrete mixer and a small crane to lift the precast panels. The resulting insulated precast components are 60% lighter than solid concrete panels of equal volume, and up to three times stronger. This allows components to be stacked for freighting horizontally, which is a great cost saving.”

Unibuild’s IP package also comprises detailed documentation of the 300 completed client projects as well as photographs, plans and tools for estimating and project management.

Also worth noting was that Unibuild’s modular building systems have been designed to meet the challenges of extreme climate, difficult ground soils, earthquake zones, cyclonic and hurricane high wind regions, and high fire hazard terrain encountered in many countries.■
