EUROPEAN PREFAB SOLUTION STANDS UP TO IRMA

A PREFAB BEACH HOUSE FROM DUTCH COMPANY CUBBICO THAT SURVIVED HURRICANE IRMA IS BEING HAILED AS SETTING A NEW STANDARD IN CYCLONE-PROOF HOUSING.

The prefabricated home is understood to have weathered the onslaught from the hurricane without any blemish, resulting in its newfound status as a model home representing the future of storm-strong building.

Cubicco beach house: designed to withstand cyclonic winds to 290 km/h.

Located in Homestead, Florida, the 64 square-metre home is constructed using laminated wood, rubber, and cork with impact-resistant doors and windows, rated to withstand 290 km/h winds (just over the 280 km/h wind speed that classifies a Category 5 cyclone).

Other Cubicco structures were also recently tested during Hurricanes Irma and Maria, when several affected in the Caribbean and Florida also emerged completely unscathed.■
