Multiplex wins contract to build modular quarantine facility

Work to commence on the $200m modular quarantine facility early next month

International construction giant Multiplex has won the tender to build a new modular 1,000-bed quarantine facility at Mickleham, Melbourne.

Construction is scheduled to begin on The Centre for National Resilience early next month in a partnership between state and federal governments.

The modular quarantine facility will add more quarantine capacity for returned travellers, with a goal to have 500 beds operational by the end of the year.

Finance Minister Simon Birmingham said the centre would have its uses outside of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This centre will supplement existing quarantine arrangements during the pandemic and be available to respond to future natural disasters or future health crises in the years to come,” he said.
