The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and Built Offsite are pleased to announce the launch of a new series dedicated to furthering Australia’s adoption of modern methods of construction.

This inaugural event on 7 March marks the beginning of a seven-part presentation series, titled “Constructive Change with Modern Methods”. The objective of the collaboration is to engage industry professionals and stakeholders in a vibrant dialogue, showcasing practical applications of innovative construction techniques to improve efficiency, promote sustainability, and shape the future of Australia’s built environment.

Event introduction: Martin Fenn – Modern Methods of Construction Lead, Oceania, CIOB.

Martin Fenn is a prominent industry advocate for modern methods of construction in Australia and is “excited for this collaboration to showcase the outstanding work happening in the industry today.”


Keynote address: Michael Wheatley – Chief Executive, Head of Housing Portfolio at Homes NSW.

Michael is leading a dedicated NSW taskforce aimed at addressing the acute shortage of social housing through modular construction. “Modular construction is not just cost-effective; it significantly reduces the time needed to build homes. This is a critical factor in addressing the immediate needs of those on the social housing waiting list.”


Speaker: Angus Abadee – Director, Building and Construction Policy at NSW Department of Customer Service.

Angus is responsible for designing and implementing the NSW Government’s reform agenda across the building industry, ensuring that buildings are compliant and fit for purpose. He leads the department in supporting opportunities for innovation, quality construction, and delivering housing to meet the needs of our community. Moreover, he maintains a keen awareness that a well-regulated market is the best measure for restoring confidence in the construction sector.

Ryan Baxter from CSR’s Customer Solutions team will discuss prefabrication strategies in tackling industry challenges through advanced materials and system solutions. Topics include offsite optimisation, automated manufacturing, multifunctional materials, onsite trade interface reduction, standardisation, design efficiency, digital documentation, and prefabricated elements.
