CLOS commits to advanced offsite manufacturing

Avalon-based Cross Laminated Offsite Solutions (CLOS) set for expansion with investment in timber offsite manufacturing equipment.

Opened in mid-2019 and situated near Geelong, Cross Laminated Offsite Solutions (CLOS offsite manufacturing) have bought the entire Weinmann-Homag advanced timber processing line from failed Impresa House.

John Fitzgibbon, Managing Director, said, “We’re deconstructing all the equipment at the moment, and from there it goes into storage for six months. At present our factory is 2,500 sqm, but in February next year we’re expanding it significantly to include a further 8,500 sqm. The processing line will be installed in the new factory, and we anticipate it will be manufacturing by mid-June next year.”

With addition of the complete Weinmann-Homag timber processing line, CLOS will use the manufacturing equipment to supply panelised wall, floor and roof frames to enhance their existing completed volumetric module business.

“It will improve our productivity by a factor of eight,” said Fitzgibbon.

Fitzgibbon sees clear opportunities to grow their completed volumetric builds servicing the developer market which includes mid-rise developments, lifestyle communities, key worker accommodation, but sees the supply of affordable housing as a key plank in the company’s growth.

“The more that comes through, the more we’ll throw our hat into the ring,” adds Fitzgibbon.
