Queensland manufacturing facility is expected to produce around 2,000 modules a year when fully operational.
Construction has begun on Modscape + Modbotics’ new advanced manufacturing facility at Yatala, giving the company a permanent production base for its expanding Queensland operations. The company confirmed the start of work following a sod-turning ceremony at the Gold Coast site, with CIP Constructions appointed as construction partner and Frasers Property Industrial delivering the development.
The purpose-built facility will support both volumetric and panelised construction and is expected to become operational from mid-2027.
Modscape + Modbotics says the plant will have capacity to produce approximately 2,000 modules a year once fully operational.
The project is also expected to support about 700 jobs, comprising around 400 construction positions and approximately 300 ongoing roles once manufacturing begins.
Queensland manufacturing footprint expands
The Yatala development follows more than a decade of activity by Modscape + Modbotics in Queensland.
Its first Queensland manufacturing operation opened at Helensvale before increased demand prompted a move to a larger interim facility at Archerfield in 2025. The Yatala plant represents the next stage of that expansion.
The company said the location was selected following a search across South East Queensland, with scale, transport connectivity, sustainability initiatives and proximity to key markets among the considerations.
“More than a new facility, it’s an investment in people and capability,” Modscape + Modbotics managing director Jan Gyrn said.
“It gives us the permanent base we need to grow our local team, further industrialise construction in Queensland, and deliver high-quality buildings faster, with greater certainty, and at a scale we simply couldn’t achieve before.”
The Yatala factory will complement Modscape + Modbotics’ principal Victorian manufacturing operation at Essendon Fields, where the company has been increasing its use of automation and robotics.
Once operational, the Queensland plant will place substantially greater manufacturing capacity closer to projects across Queensland and northern New South Wales, while giving Modscape + Modbotics a second major production base on Australia’s east coast.
