Development Victoria issues advanced tender for 2026 Commonwealth Games with commitment for 50% prefabricated buildings and structures

Development Victoria has issued an advanced tender for The Commonwealth Games 2026 Athletes Villages.

The Tender has an EOI release date scheduled for 23 January 2023 at 12.00pm.

The Scope of Tender involves the design and construction of approximately 1,200 medium density 1-2 storey dwellings (with some potential for small apartment buildings), excluding civil works, across four regional locations.

The Games regional locations are: Geelong (Waurn Ponds Station Precinct); Ballarat (Delacombe); Bendigo (Flora Hill); and Gippsland (Morwell).

According to the Village Builder Procurement Forward Notice:

“Appointed contractors (including prefabrication contractors) will:
• be responsible for the design and construction of the Project, or parts of the Project, which may require coordination of design consultants, subcontractors, suppliers, transport, cranage etc.
• work collaboratively with Development Victoria (and any appointed Manager(s)) to ensure safe and efficient delivery of the Project.

The scale of the Project and completion date of September 2025 means it is likely that:
• more than one contractor will be appointed,
• contractors may be appointed to undertake a part or parts of the Project, and
• more than one contractor may be appointed at each regional location

All dwellings both permanent and temporary will make an important legacy contribution to housing supply, quality and diversity across regional Victoria.“
