The first Drop Pod prototype has been installed in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. Developed by Inspiral Architecture and Design Studios in 2025, the compact modular unit demonstrates a prefabricated housing solution designed for efficiency, adaptability, and environmental resilience. Prefabrication for diverse conditions
The Drop Pod is engineered to adapt across a range of topographies, from coastal settings to urban infill sites. Elevated up to 1.2 metres, the structure is designed to withstand flooding and unstable ground, addressing common challenges in regions exposed to climate impacts. Its prefabricated shell can be assembled in approximately one week, allowing rapid delivery where housing demand is urgent.
Externally, the unit’s curved form and natural materials allow integration with surrounding landscapes, while the modular frame provides structural stability. Positioned on a base of river stones, it balances environmental responsiveness with straightforward installation.


Interior functionality in compact form
Internally, the Drop Pod applies efficient spatial planning to deliver flexibility within a small footprint. An open-plan arrangement is supported by concealed storage and a mezzanine sleeping area, while expansive glazing ensures natural light and a connection to the external environment.

The bathroom and bedroom follows the same principle, combining practical layouts with design detail such as rounded windows and integrated cabinetry.


Application across housing models
The Drop Pod has been conceived as a flexible typology that can function as a standalone residence, an addition to an existing dwelling, or as part of a larger modular cluster. Potential applications range from social housing programmes to resort accommodation and urban development.
