Korean electronics leviathan, LG Electronics, last week unveiled their iteration on the future of modular housing, and they’ve called it LG Smart Cottage. (main pic: LG’s modular built home of the future.)

Their objective is to provide customers with a unique residential experience that integrates space, home electronics, and support services.

This small modular house comes equipped with LG’s energy and air conditioning technology, as well as their premium home electronics.

The Smart Cottage prototype is a two-storey, one-room structure with a floor space of 31.4 square metres. The living room and kitchen occupy one space, while the bathroom and powder room are separate, and the bedroom is located on the second floor.

The rooftop features a 4-kilowatt solar panel, which they anticipate will partially power the modular home.

Inside the Smart Cottage, a range of premium home electronics with various energy-saving technologies are on offer, including their Objet Collection wash tower compact, dishwasher, induction microwave oven, and water purifier. Additionally, the Therma V Monoblock, a heat pump heating and cooling system, is installed to further reduce energy consumption.

According to a company release, LG Electronics plans to collaborate with a startup that will manage their modular smart cottages, with the expressed intention to “revitalise the local economy by creating jobs for young people and seniors in areas where smart cottages are installed.”

Lee Hyang-eun, managing director in charge of CX at LG Electronics’ H&A division, said: “We will present a new lifestyle that protects the environment and coexists with the region through LG Smart Cottage, which provides a different level of customer experience by converging space, home appliances, and services.”
