Buildcorp’s Contracting team is a third of the way through one of their largest prefabrication innovation project to date; the $152m Santa Sophia Catholic College at Box Hill.
The BVN-designed ‘Vertical School’ is being built in just 13 months, setting new standards in prefabrication innovation. The campus will have four interconnected buildings of up to six storeys and outdoor terraces for learning and playing, catering to 1,860 students from Kindergarten to Year 12 and 60 children in the Early Learning Centre.
After a sod turning ceremony in July 2020 alongside our Clients from the Catholic Education Diocese of Parramatta, the team are on track four months in to hit the short program.
To be built in 13 months, the project had to be designed that way. Buildcorp, with the help of key partners, developed an innovative solution that achieves design intent, program and price.The sizeable offsite prefabrication solution incudes 90% of the joinery made offsite by partner Euroline. Additionally, elements including the façade and structural steel, through to the flooring, ceilings and mechanical plant are being fabricated or pre-commissioned offsite in 10 factories across Australia, to manage load and risk.
The project team collaborated earlier this year to develop the BIM model for early clash detection. The offsite strategy is also boosting quality assurance through prototyping and factory quality checks.
The project site will be a place of learning from day one, as Buildcorp is partnering with CathWest Innovation College to create opportunities for trade apprenticeships, training and employment pathways through our project subcontractors.
