Smart home technology in prefab construction – Samsung’s vision for intelligent modular housing finds a home with Korea’s Yoochang.
Samsung Electronics and Yoohang have signed an agreement to develop AI-powered modular buildings, strengthening their collaboration in Korea’s burgeoning modular construction sector. (main pic: A modular development by Korea’s Yoochang manufactured using their U’Vista modular system.)
Yoochang, Korea’s largest modular construction manufacturer, has been shaping the industry since 2003, delivering modular solutions for residential, educational, workplace, and military use. Through this partnership, Samsung Electronics will bring its AI-driven ‘SmartThings Pro’ technology into Yuchang E&C’s modular housing developments to enhance efficiency, automation, and usability.
As part of the agreement, Samsung Electronics will also integrate AI-enabled air conditioning, digital signage, refrigerators, and washing machines into Yuchang E&C’s modular housing projects. The SmartThings Pro platform will connect and manage a range of AI appliances, temperature and motion sensors, smart plugs, lighting, and climate control systems, making living and working spaces more intelligent and adaptable.
This collaboration is part of Samsung’s broader ‘Home AI’ strategy, which aims to extend smart home capabilities into modular buildings. By integrating AI-driven automation and energy optimisation, Samsung is reinforcing its position in the growing smart, sustainable housing sector.
Samsung also plans to implement its ‘Net Zero Home’ initiative through this partnership. Using AI to improve energy efficiency, these modular homes will be designed to generate and regulate their own energy consumption, supporting carbon neutrality goals.
Lim Seong-taek, vice president of Samsung Electronics’ Korea headquarters, said, ‘By combining Samsung Electronics’ AI solutions with Yuchang E&C’s expertise in modular construction, we can create intelligent, responsive environments that redefine modular spaces.’
Jo Woo-jae, CEO of Yoochang, added, ‘This partnership takes modular housing to the next level, integrating AI-driven solutions to make spaces more intuitive and user-friendly.’
The integration of AI into modular construction is expected to streamline building processes, improve operational efficiency, and enhance user experiences.
