Singapore has opened its largest integrated construction and prefabrication hub (ICPH), which is expected to help the country reduce its reliance on imported building materials and create more jobs for Singaporeans. (main pic: An automated concrete spreader at Singapore’s new prefabrication hub.)
The opening of the prefabrication hub is in line with Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) Industry Transformation Map (ITM) published in 2017, when they committed to improve the productivity of their construction sector through the use of digital technologies and prefabrication building methodologies.

The HL-Sunway Prefab Hub, which is located in Punggol Barat Lane, is a joint venture between mainboard-listed Hong Leong Asia and Malaysia’s Sunway Construction Group. The hub can produce up to 100,000 cubic metres of precast components per year, enough to complete about 17 blocks of flats.
The hub uses a variety of automated technologies to produce building components, including an automated mesh fabrication system and an automated storage and retrieval system. These technologies help to improve productivity and reduce the need for manual labour.
Singapore’s Minister for National Development Desmond Lee said that the opening of the HL-Sunway Prefab Hub is a significant milestone for Singapore’s construction industry. He said that the hub will help to make Singapore’s supply chains more resilient and create more job opportunities for Singaporeans.

“The HL-Sunway Prefab Hub is a state-of-the-art facility that will help us to build more homes and infrastructure more quickly and efficiently,” said Mr Lee. “It will also help us to reduce our reliance on imported building materials and create more job opportunities for Singaporeans.”
Mr Lee also said that the hub is a testament to Singapore’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. He said that the hub’s use of automated technologies and sustainable features will help to make Singapore’s construction industry more efficient and environmentally friendly.
The hub is expected to help to reduce the country’s reliance on imported building materials, create more jobs for Singaporeans, and make Singapore’s construction industry more efficient and environmentally friendly.
