SA-based Footers Structural Timber sold to Mitre 10
With the marketing and distribution advantages that national hardware chain Mitre 10 can deliver, the timing of their recent purchase may well indicate an intention to include structural timber solutions available to the trade.
Mitre 10 already sell LVL (laminated-veneer lumber) and Glulam (glue-laminted timber) to the trade nationally, so it makes good business sense to expand that offering to include structural timber solutions as well.
The purchase of the Footers business by K & B Timber & Hardware (part of the Mitre 10/Metcash Group) is effective from 4 October 2021. And according to company sources, once fully integrated into K&B, they’ll retain all their employees and continue to operate at the SA Edinburgh site.
In January 2019 the company moved from its previous factory in Regency Park, SA, to its purpose-built advanced structural timber processing facility at Edinburgh, SA.
Mark Footer, Managing Director, said: “Footers has a proud history in South Australia dating back to 1956, and while the decision to sell the business did not come lightly, we did so comfortable in the knowledge that it will become part of another locally-grown timber business and continue our legacy of product innovation, investment in technology and service excellence.”
