Timberlink's NeXTimber CLT panel production starts

Much anticipated launch of Timberlink’s NeXTimber CLT and GLT manufacturing facility now taking orders.

Timberlink’s new cross-laminated timber (CLT) and glue-laminated timber (GLT) situated in Tarpeena, South Australia, has commenced manufacturing to supply Australian-made, carbon-neutral mass timber solutions for commercial, residential, and public projects. “Supported by a $63 million capital investment, the NeXTimber range is produced on Australia’s first combined large-scale softwoods CLT and GLT engineered timber line,” notes David Oliver, Timberlink’s general manager of sales, marketing, and corporate affairs.

The CLT line’s launch follows the facility’s inaugural GLT beam, manufactured in August this year.

David Oliver, Timberlink’s Chief Marketing, Sales & Corporate Affairs Officer, commented, “The entire team has been striving for this since the facility’s construction announcement in 2020. Seeing the efforts of so many materialise is truly gratifying.”

According to Oliver, the “enthusiastic and growing” uptake of mass timber by the construction industry is a “firm nod to moving into a sustainable future,” with mass timber being hailed as “the ultimate sustainable resource.”

The CLT and GLT manufacturing facility will utilise local timber from Green Triangle pine plantations, processed at Timberlink’s adjoining facility. “It’s the only combined radiata pine facility to produce CLT and GLT in Australia,” Mr. Oliver stated.

Patrick Dark, Timberlink’s CLT/GLT Operations Manager, expressed, “The positive energy was palpable when the panel was completed. Everyone involved in our NeXTimber equipment’s installation, testing, and commissioning should feel proud of our achievements.”

Spanning 15,000 square metres, the newly operational CLT line can produce panels up to 16M in length and 3.5M in width. This enhances Australia’s capacity to fabricate mass timber building materials. Products like CLT and GLT present an appealing alternative to conventional building materials, potentially reducing a project’s carbon footprint.

Independent fire testing on the NeXTimber’s CLT and GLT mass timber products has also been completed by Warringtonfire, and a copy of the results can be downloaded HERE.

The mass timber manufacturing facility is scheduled for full production by month’s end.
