TopHat’s new modular home mega-factory revealed

Positioned to be the largest modular home manufacturer in Europe, TopHat’s new 60,000 sqm mega-factory shares their vision.

Founded by 46-year-old New York-native, Jordan Rosenhaus, TopHat, and underwritten by Goldman Sachs, is on track by the end of 2023 to launch their new modular housing factory situated in Corby, UK. (main pic: Kuka robots powering TopHat’s new modular home mega-factory.)

The new modular housing factory is forecast to produce enough prefabricated elements for 4,000 homes per year, compared to the 800 homes it can produce annually at its Derby facility.
And, they’ve already secured a contract to manufacture 226 ultra-low carbon modular homes for Man Group’s development in East Sussex.

The deal to supply the modular homes is said to be worth £50 million (AUD $95 million).

TopHat have invested in 59 specially-made robots from Kuka Robotics from Germany, and they are currently being tested ready for installation later in the year.

TopHat says the robots will help in its mission to design and build homes which have exceptional architectural flexibility, are low in embodied carbon and require a low amount of energy to run.

Jordan Rosenhaus, CEO, TopHat, said: “New homes built to the highest standards are desperately needed to help solve the UK housing crisis.”

In a recent panel interview featuring Benoit Mainguy, Group Construction Director, of French multi-residential builder, Nexity, and Jordan Rosenhaus, CEO of TopHat announcing their joint venture, Rosenhaus, said, “What we do is in the manufacturing process, is try to do as much as we can in a controlled environment with cutting edge technology in order to make the process as seamless as possible. So currently we focus on residential, and we can go anything from houses to apartments, up to eleven stories. The goal is to take as much error out of the process as possible.”

Construction, as you know, is a difficult industry that hasn’t had a lot of productivity growth over the years. And at Top Hat, what we aim to do is bring construction more in line with industry to get the benefits of modern technology.”

“The goal is to create capacity here in France for the French market, and it would take a factory. And, that’s what we’ve been developing over the years at TopHat, a system that we can basically transport, so we’re not starting from scratch,” commented Rosenhaus.

Benoit Mainguy, Group Construction Director, Nexity, said, “We were looking for a technology partner in order to develop this sector, and we found TopHat, a cutting-edge technology partner. We aim at developing with Jordan this sector in France.”
