The new smart base and fast hook systems from bathroom pod specialist Pacific Australia (PPA) are saving time and money.
With the cost of installing bathrooms and minimising hook time for the head contractor a primary factor in Platinum Pacific Australia’s lifecycle design, PPA has developed its bottom up installation process and base structure to ensure the Lifecycle Bathroom Pod System optimises the speed and cost of installation.
The PPA Smart Base robust chassis and the new second generation PPA FastHook System enabled the installation of bathroom pods on a recent deployment in Liverpool, NSW, at a much faster turnaround cycle, saving considerable on site costs. PPA reports that clients appreciate that it directly manages the entire installation process, further simplifying the decision to use PPA Pods by minimising head contractor waste disposal costs and management time. PPA’s specialist installation service is offered as part of an end-to-end design, manufacture and install process.
Commenting on the Smart Base and new FastHook System, Executive Director, Roderick Grace said, “PPA has continued to develop our robust chassis to include the improved PPA FastHook System, which means installations can now be even faster, whilst still ensuring the PPA Pods Smart Base design still requires no grouting, and the integrated floor connection means no wet trades after installation.”

“All of these new delivery design features are complemented by an absolute focus on minimising packaging and protection material, which dramatically reduces site waste and any follow-up clean and tidy. PPA’s products are robust enough to allow minimal transportation protection which reduces total packaging waste onsite to less than a handful of sticky tape.”
Overall PPA continues to enhance the speed of POD installation to ensure maximum efficiency and savings in time and money to the contractor and developer, which is often realised too late in the analysis of the pod supply cost. “PPA pods are estimated to save contractors at least $500 per bathroom compared to competitor products just in the installation process alone,” he says.
A recent hook time analysis on a 25 storey building reported that the PPA pod total truck to platform cycle average was 20 minutes, compared to other competitors who average a minimum of 40 minutes.
When converted to financial statistics, using the PPA Hook System and Smart Base saved 87 hours of hook time. Coupled with lower installation costs and minimal rubbish, the result was a total saving versus competitors of around $237,000 over 341 installed pods; equating to up to $700 per bathroom.
“The bathroom pod market sector is seeing tremendous growth globally, which PPA Pods is matching with innovation, quick installation and exceptional quality,” says Roderick Grace. PPA’s full lifecycle assessment means our products add value and eliminate waterproofing concerns. The Smart Tray considerably reduces renovation downtime, particularly important in operating assets such as hotels or student housing.”
Now working in the USA and continuing to expand operations in New Zealand, Asia, Australia and the UK, the business is focused on being a leader in lifecycle modular construction and innovation that delivers value to developers and builders and provides property owners and investors with economic savings across the lifetime of their investment. Producing pods in Australia, coupled with existing facilities in Asia, Grace says PPA is committed to delivering innovative solutions, access to new technology developments in manufacturing and key learnings from global projects.
