Queensland’s peak organisation for rural producers, AgForce, will co-host the Doing Timber Business in Queensland 2025 Conference on 2–3 September, joining Timber Queensland in presenting a two-day program focused on land use integration, timber production, and the growing role of timber in the construction supply chain. Held across two venues in Brisbane, the event reflects growing alignment between agriculture, forestry and modern methods of construction (MMC) in Queensland.

The conference opens on 2 September at Walkabout Creek with a full-day program under the theme Building Farm Resilience. Sessions will cover private native forestry under the Queensland Future Timber Plan, carbon market access, and recent findings from the Meat & Livestock Australia-backed “Steak n Wood” project, which explored silvopastoral systems combining beef, timber and carbon.

Other topics include landholder responses to new international deforestation regulations, tools like AgForce’s AgCarE natural capital reporting system, and the financial modelling of stacked income strategies across timber, carbon and grazing. The first day concludes with the Steaks and Stumps industry dinner, co-hosted by AgForce at Rydges Fortitude Valley and featuring remarks from Queensland Primary Industries Minister Tony Perrett.

The second day, Building Our Future in Timber, shifts focus to the role of timber in solving housing and climate challenges. Held at Aurecon’s 25 King Street building, sessions will explore timber’s use in social and affordable housing, design simplification for mid-rise construction, and upcoming code changes allowing timber structures up to 18 storeys.

The afternoon includes guided site tours to three locations: 25 King Street—Australia’s tallest timber commercial building; SigmaBuild’s hybrid prefabrication facility; and a local truss and frame development at Wat Thai Buddharam Temple.

AgForce’s co-hosting role signals a broader interest among Queensland’s primary producers in understanding how timber production and construction markets may complement existing agricultural operations. With MMC now part of the state’s housing supply strategy, this year’s conference positions timber as a sector where rural and urban priorities increasingly intersect.
