Hutchinson Builders recently secured a contract with the state government to manufacture 29 modular homes in their Toowoomba facility.

State Housing Minister, Meaghan Scanlon, confirmed last Thursday that the initial batch was dispatched last month, which incorporated three homes for Roma and two destined for Cunnamulla. Additionally, this week will see a delivery of two homes each for Longreach and Hughenden. By the close of the month, another six homes are set to be completed and transported to various regional locations.

Minister Scanlon highlighted the benefits of modular housing, stating, “Constructing a pre-fabricated home takes merely a fraction of the time compared to traditional ground-up methods, particularly in regional areas.” She further added that such homes are an ideal solution for Queensland’s regional communities, where building can often be costlier and time-intensive.

She recalled, “Since 2015, our average delivery rate has been more than 10 homes weekly. With unprecedented investment and innovative projects like this, our aim is to expedite the housing process even further.”

June’s state budget revealed $5 billion earmarked by the Queensland government for social and affordable housing, setting the goal at a delivery of 13,500 homes. Minister Scanlon shared, “Beyond our traditional social housing projects supported by the $5 billion fund, we’re also exploring pioneering methods to speed up home construction for those Queenslanders most in need.”
