Venture First and TYP64 secure purchase of light gauge steel roll forming equipment manufacturer Scottsdale Construction Systems.
The recent acquisition of Scottsdale Construction Systems, an Australian company specialising in light gauge steel frame and truss manufacturing technology, by Venture First and TYP64 is positioning them for global expansion, particularly in the U.S. and EU markets.
Announced in a news release last week, the acquisition indicates a focus on leveraging Scottsdale’s technology in light gauge steel wall frame and roof truss manufacturing. Their technology encompasses a range of solutions from single to multi-machine applications, catering to high-volume production needs.
Derek McSpadden, CEO of Scottsdale, expressed enthusiasm for this new chapter. “We are excited to build on this strategic partnership and look forward to our next chapter alongside the Venture First and TYP64 teams,” he said. McSpadden praised the digital transformation expertise of Venture First and TYP64, believing it will synergise well with Scottsdale’s history of innovation in a rapidly evolving industry.
Light gauge steel framing is increasingly being accepted as a sustainable and efficient alternative to traditional wood framing for new construction, extensions, and adaptive reuse projects.

John Shumate, CEO of Venture First, emphasised the company’s commitment to investing in innovative technologies and talented teams. “We believe Scottsdale has a unique opportunity to take advantage of a rapidly changing commercial and residential building market that is ripe for the manufacturing system and technology they offer,” Shumate remarked.
The initial capital infusion from the acquisition will focus on three primary objectives: developing and deploying customer-centric investment options, enhancing operational capacity for faster order fulfilment, and aggressive expansion into new markets, including establishing distribution partnerships in the EU and U.S.
Steve Huey, Founder and CEO of TYP64, underscored the leadership position of Scottsdale in the light gauge steel framing industry. “Scottsdale has been, and will continue to be, the industry leader in the light gauge steel framing industry,” Huey stated. He highlighted the team’s eagerness to scale up the production of this vital product globally.
