Competition launched by Kingspan to further the designs of modular microhomes.
Kingspan, in collaboration with Buildner (an organisation that hosts architectural competitions), has launched the latest edition of the MICROHOME architecture competition, this time with a €150,000 (AUD $245,000) prize pool.
The MICROHOME Kingspan Edition is focussing on small-scale, modular-built, eco-friendly living solutions.
This year’s challenge to architects and designers: create an off-grid, modular home no larger than 25 m2, designed for a hypothetical young professional couple. The size constraint is a deliberate push towards innovative space-utilisation, challenging participants to think creatively within limited square metres.
The modular home competition is also being positioned as a testbed for new ideas in sustainable living, urging designers to rethink traditional home layouts, aesthetics, and to embrace the latest in technology and materials. Kingspan’s intention is clear – to elevate the concept of the microhome from a niche architectural experiment to a viable, forward-thinking modular housing solution.
The modular home competition has no geographic limitations, inviting global talent to envision these micro modular homes in varied settings, for either urban centres or rural landscapes. According to the notice of entry, entries that prioritise sustainability and address broader socio-economic challenges will stand out, aligning with the competition’s ethos of responsible and innovative design.
