Life-size plans an opportunity for modern methods of construction?

Australian company Lifesize Plans expands to the U.S. with potential implications for MMC.

Australian-based company Lifesize Plans, founded in 2017 by Chris Ghaleb, are on the precipice of expanding their operations to the U.S. over the next five years with 50 new locations.

With a patented projection system which allows clients to walkthrough their architectural building plans at a 1:1 life-size scale format before construction begins, the opportunity to apply the technology to modern methods of construction (MMC), and particularly, parametric design are significant.

They also provide real furniture, household items, partition walls, and decorations to offer clients a deeper understanding of their proposed scheme’s spatial qualities.

The ability to visually and physically engage a client with a kit-of-parts, and from there, manufacture their building or home would overcome many of the preconceived constraints surrounding manufactured dwellings.

“With the use of state-of-the-art technology and tailored programs we are able to show your complete dwelling – including upper and lower floors, backyards, swimming pools and entertaining areas, along with driveways and parking spaces to a ‘true’ 1:1 scale,” the company says.

“We encourage you to push the furniture around and place them in your rooms, hallways and living area, so you can get a true feel of your layout and size.”

In addition to projecting plans on the floor, the team offers a “4K cinematic experience” that projects façade elevations or video flythroughs onto vertical walls.

Interestingly, there’s also a live design studio, where architects and designers can make real-time changes to the 1:1 plan from their laptop; ideal for parametric design.

Other upcoming projects for the company include augmented reality and hologram technology for their showrooms, the latter of which is expected to be incorporated this year.
