Litehaus advances in AI and 3D printing for housing in Portugal

AI and 3D printing were blended for housing development in Portugal by Litehaus.

Litehaus, a property development company, is set to construct a 3D-printed house in Torres Vedras, Portugal, a move that aligns with its ambitious goal to build 100 residences annually across the country.

Situated in Portela da Villa, 30 minutes from Lisbon, the development is  part of the company’s commitment to reducing the carbon footprint of the construction sector, which accounts for 42% of global emissions.

At the heart of this project is the use of 3D printing technology, predominantly for constructing walls. This method is complemented by AI, which is being used in the initial creative and design phases. Litehaus’s chief creative officer, Simi Launay, emphasised the efficiency and potential of this technology, stating, “We are here to disrupt the sector. This technology allows us to produce as much as 45m² of walls in only 20 hours.”

Litehaus is not just focusing on the technological aspects but they’re also deeply invested in the sustainability of its projects. The company’s approach to modular housing and 3D-printed homes reportedly cuts energy consumption by 67% compared to traditional manufacturing methods. The integration of technology and sustainability aims to develop premium, energy-efficient properties with reduced operational costs.

Launay further elaborated on Litehaus’s vision, saying, “Litehaus is embarking on a mission to redefine living spaces, fusing AI technology, 3D printing, and modular homes to create buildings that resonate with simplicity, innovation, and sustainability. Our goal is to build 70% faster and 20% cheaper, delivering residences that epitomise elegance and minimalism harmonised with Portugal’s natural beauty.”

Litehaus also plans to construct a complex of 13 3D-printed houses in Torres Vedras. The objective is to build 100 residences annually leaning heavily on the integration of AI and 3D printing.
