Modular builder CLOS to relocate to former Ford factory in Geelong

Avalon-based Cross Laminated Offsite Solutions (CLOS) to take up residence in former Ford factory.

Following the recent announcement of CLOS’s purchase of a complete Weinmann-Homag advanced timber processing line, the decision has been made to relocate the business from Avalon to the Pelligra Fortek Facility, inside the Old Geelong Ford factory in February next year to accommodate their planned expansion.

The new 12,000m2 facility also features overhead gantry cranes from its car production days, that John Fitzgibbon, Managing Director, says will complement their modular business and increase the company’s productivity.

Former Ford factory now home to CLOS.

The Weinmann-Homag manufacturing line will use 50% of the 12,000 square metres, with the remainder to be allocated to their existing modular construction division.

“The move to Fortek allows our team members from the northern suburbs of Geelong to travel to work more easily. It will also encourage more of the Norlane and Corio workforce to be re-engaged with the home of manufacturing, Ford Geelong. Norlane and Corio are suburbs that were built on jobs at Ford, so this is a great circle back in,” said Fitzgibbon.

Fitzgibbon is also forecasting relocating the business will significantly increase workforce participation from their present 40 employees to 100 employees.

The installation of the Weinmann-Homag manufacturing line is scheduled to be completed and commissioned by July 2023.

“The new Commonwealth Games Athletes Village was also just announced this week too, which is only 20 minutes down the road. We’re optimistic that lots of good things will come out of our new location,” remarked Fitzgibbon.
