Modular factory expansion in Geraldton receives key funding boost

RED grants program invests in local modular housing solutions in Geraldton.

The WA Government has announced $1.2 million in funding for twelve projects in the Mid West region as part of Round 7 of its Regional Economic Development (RED) Grants. The objective of the grants is to foster economic diversity and enhance business resilience in the area.

Among the grant recipients, GBSC for their modular home division, is set to receive $100,000. The funding will enable the factory to create an undercover, all-weather workspace dedicated to modular construction, a move that will help accelerate the production of homes for the Greater Geraldton area. The expansion is anticipated to create 20 new jobs within its first year and bolster the local modular housing industry.

The broader Regional Economic Development Grants program is investing $55.85 million over nine years to support locally driven projects that contribute to regional economic growth. By targeting diverse sectors such as agribusiness, tourism, manufacturing, and environmental services, the program aims to stimulate job creation across the Mid West.

Regional Development Minister Don Punch highlighted the importance of these investments, noting that the grants serve to enhance regional economies and provide long-term employment opportunities. The project at Geraldton Modular Homes Factory will not only strengthen the local housing market but also attract investment to the area, reducing dependency on Perth for manufactured modular homes.

The new modular construction facility is also expected to improve technical skills within the region, further contributing to the local economy’s development.
