Western Australia focuses on modular homes for Katanning.
The delivery of modular homes in Western Australia has received a notable addition with the completion of eight new modular social homes in Katanning. These two-bedroom homes were built to the silver Liveable Homes standard by Murray River North and Modularis in Perth, then transported to the Great Southern region by truck. Housing Minister John Carey commented, “Our Government is doing everything it can to bolster the supply of social housing across Western Australia. In the face of a heated construction market, we’ve delivered initiatives to accelerate the delivery of social housing through a number of key reform programs, including the timber frame and modular build programs.”
The Cook Labor Government has been working to address housing and homelessness with a $3.2 billion investment. So far, over 2,450 social homes have been added across the state, and more than 1,000 homes are currently in contract or under construction.
The modular homes in Katanning are part of this ongoing effort to provide housing in regional areas. Agricultural Region MLC Shelley Payne added, “I’m proud to be part of the Cook Government as we continue to deliver for regional WA. To see eight new modular social dwellings completed in Katanning is a solid outcome and these will provide new homes to some of the most vulnerable members of our local community.”
Western Australia’s use of modular construction methods has played a key role in speeding up delivery times and meeting the demand for housing in regional locations. The additional five homes will continue to build on this progress, marking another step in addressing housing shortages across Western Australia.
