New modular housing brand EchidnaBuilt launched by Colac-based pallet manufacturer CMTP.

CMTP, a long-standing manufacturer based in Colac, Victoria, has announced the expansion of its business into modular housing with the launch of its new brand, EchidnaBuilt. Known for its pallet and crate manufacturing since 1976, CMTP’s latest venture seeks to meet the increasing demand for more efficient and sustainable building methods in Australia. With 270 employees across eleven sites, CMTP has grown its reputation through producing pallets, crates, and specialised air freight containers. The company’s Managing Director, Travis Meade, believes the modular housing market in Australia is on the rise, and EchidnaBuilt is ready to address this opportunity.

“We are seeing a growing trend in factory-built homes across Australia. They are faster to manufacture and don’t face the delays typically caused by weather or access issues,” said Meade.

EchidnaBuilt is set to offer four modular home designs: Second Dwellings, 2 Bedroom, 3 Bedroom, and 4 Bedroom. They’re positioning their homes as not only being quicker to manufacture but also more sustainable, making them an eco-friendly alternative for residential and commercial purposes.

Meade further explained that this expansion fits naturally with CMTP’s long history of manufacturing innovation. By leveraging their existing production expertise, they aim to deliver modular solutions that are flexible and adaptable to modern needs.

The modular units will be manufactured at their Colac site, providing a local solution for housing that can reduce both construction time and costs. The venture is seen as a significant step for CMTP as it diversifies beyond its core packaging and pallet manufacturing business.
