Australian prefabricated chancery awarded Procore Award for Development Innovation

Prefabricated chancery delivered to Rabat, Morocco scores prestigious property award.

The Road to Rabat conjures all sorts of evocative images, but the successful installation of DFAT’s prefabricated chancery in Rabat, Morocco, affirms, for DFAT, ‘the code has been cracked – the problem has been solved’.

In last September’s prefabAUS virtual conference, Greg Hammond, DFAT, presented their new chancery, and through assessing different risk profiles and driving public sector value for money, spoke about how ultimately, they settled on MBD (now part of Fleetwood) to build and deliver their new prefabricated volumetric chancery to Rabat.

Their efforts haven’t gone unnoticed and on 15 December last year, the project was awarded the Procore Technologies Award for Innovation at the Property Council of Australia’s annual event.

The prefabricated chancery was project managed by Global Project Solutions.

ACT Executive Director of the Property Council of Australia, Adina Cirson, said Canberra’s extensive innovation and excellence was recognised at the awards, particularly with the embassy development.

“Global Project Solutions, in collaboration with the Australian modular building industry, has achieved an incredible feat in delivering an Australian built, fully sea-transportable, modular A-Grade diplomatic office building solution,” Ms Cirson said.

“Not only is it in-factory built, stackable and easily transportable, it also meets the quality and security needs of a diplomatic mission. This solution will undoubtably be used around the world for high quality, remote location offices in the coming years.”

“The Embassy in Rabat, has been in operation since March (last) year, and has received significant interest and visits by other nations and requests for Australian industry contacts,” said Mr Hammond.

The project has also generated interest from the USA, Canada, The Netherlands, Ireland and Argentina.
