Queensland Government’s $144 million tender includes modular construction

Modular construction integral to Queensland Government’s hospital expansion projects.

The Queensland Government announced last week that tenders are out for $144 million in construction projects that will deliver more than 150 extra hospital beds for the State by next year.

The five major hospital expansion projects are part of the Palaszczuk Government’s $229 million Accelerated Infrastructure Delivery Plan.

Minister for Health and Ambulance Services, Yvette D’Ath, said construction firms now had the opportunity to be part of the Queensland Government’s historic investment in health infrastructure.

“We are investing in delivering vital health infrastructure across the State to meet the demands of today and respond to future challenges,” Minister D’Ath said.

The infrastructure projects are at Gold Coast University Hospital, QEII Hospital, Princess Alexandra, Robina and Redland Hospitals.

The accelerated infrastructure works at Gold Coast University Hospital will deliver a brand-new purpose built, four level building, featuring three new wards, with a total of 70 sub-acute beds to care for patients with complex needs.

QEII’s expansion will deliver a modular bed project comprising 28 extra beds, complementing a recently opened new 26-bed ward.

The Redland Hospital infrastructure project will deliver a $25 million modular ward that will boost capacity with 28 additional beds.

Robina Hospital’s Emergency Department will undergo a $16.5 million expansion to deliver 20 extra treatment spaces.

And the Princess Alexandra Hospital will undergo a $5.8 million refurbishment of its renal unit to deliver eight additional beds.

“Following the finalisation of the tenders, construction of each of these projects is due to commence by early next year, with the beds to be completed and operational in the second half of next year.
