SIBS signs supply agreement for 302-room Port Hedland modular hotel

Onsite works have commenced, with module production expected in late 2026 and delivery to Western Australia in the first half of 2027.

Swedish modular manufacturer SIBS has signed a supply and delivery agreement for a 302-room hotel in Port Hedland, advancing the coastal development from design and planning into construction.

Announced on 1 October, the agreement is between its Malaysian subsidiary, SIBS Sdn Bhd, and an unnamed Southeast Asia-based property developer. The hotel will comprise two buildings of six and five storeys, with SIBS supplying modular units in collaboration with a local Australian principal contractor.

The contract follows the design and planning agreement announced in March. SIBS says that phase is now complete and onsite works have commenced.

Lawrence Chua, Executive Director of SIBS Malaysia, said the supply agreement followed a competitive tender and detailed design process.

“Following a successful design phase in close collaboration with our customer and project partners in Australia, we are now moving into manufacturing. The project has progressed through a competitive tender and a comprehensive design process and is now entering the construction phase.”

Production and delivery timetable updated
SIBS expects manufacturing to begin in late 2026, with modules delivered to site during the first half of 2027.

The timetable updates the programme reported in March, which anticipated production beginning in summer 2026 and completion by the end of that year. The latest announcement does not provide a revised completion or hotel opening date. It also does not identify the developer or Australian principal contractor, or disclose the agreement’s value.

Australian engagements span hotels and backyard housing
Port Hedland follows SIBS’ earlier Australian agreements across residential and hospitality projects.

In October 2025, the company announced its first Australian order for 50 ancillary dwelling units, to be manufactured at its Malaysian facilities. The following month, it announced a 212-key hotel project in Kalgoorlie with Baracus Pty Ltd, covering approximately 7,700 m² of accommodation and supporting facilities.

More recently, Built Offsite reported on Janusz Hooker’s OHOME modular housing venture, distributed through LJ Hooker. SIBS manufactures its modules in Penang, Malaysia. OHOME combines 20 m² living and service modules into dwellings ranging from studios to three-bedroom homes, initially targeting secondary dwellings on existing residential land.

From backyard homes sold through LJ Hooker to a 302-room hotel on the Pilbara coast, SIBS’ Australian work spans markedly different building types. Port Hedland is now moving into construction, with onsite works underway ahead of module production in Malaysia.
