Canada’s Team MTL’s entry – Solar Decathalon China 2018.

GLOBAL HOME BUILDING CONTEST INCLUDES PREFAB IN CRITERIA

THE SOLAR DECATHLON CHINA 2018 WILL SEE DWELLINGS BUILT TO STRICT CRITERIA INCLUDING PREFABRICATION AND ENERGY EFFICIENCY.

From the competition’s inception in 2002 in Washington, United States, it has been held approximately every two years and in 2018 will be held in Dezhou City, Shandong Province in China.

There will be 22 teams represented from 11 countries, with each team required to design and build a two storey, prefab solar-powered house with an internal area of 120-200 m2. The dwelling must be capable of supporting a single family and be equipped with standard household appliances such as TV, refrigerator, cooktop, dishwasher, washing machine and a computer.

Significantly, as part of the entry criteria, each house must provide an electric vehicle and also be capable of charging it. Each project will also be evaluated on its cost of production, power efficiency, environment adaptability and power generation capacity. Homes will be on display for at least three months, with all entries required to be prefabricated and transported to the exhibition site in early 2018. See: http://sdchina.org.cn/english ■
