ARCHITECT JOINS MICROSOFT FOLD WITH PANELISED SOLUTION
NORTH AMERICA: DEMONSTRATING THE INCREASING INTERFACE BETWEEN TECHNOLOGY AND ARCHITECTURE, THE CREATORS OF A PREFABRICATED, TECH ENABLED PANEL SYSTEM HAVE JOINED FORCES WITH MICROSOFT.
Toronto-based international architectural practice WZMH Architects has been signed up to Microsoft’s global Internet of Things (IoT) Insider Labs.
WZMH Architects, along with partners Quasar Consulting Group, Stephenson Engineering and C3PoE, have joined the program following their development of the so-called ‘intelligent structural panel’ (ISP) designed to create “plug and play”, intelligent, energy efficient and sustainable building infrastructure.
The partners are engaging in a number of related ongoing technical workshops at the Microsoft IoT lab headquarters.
It is understood the ISP was created with the goal of providing all stakeholders in a building with a prefabricated, modular solution designed to be: cost-effective; reducing construction schedule and long-term operating costs; sustainable; and allowing the implementation of artificial intelligence (AI); and the integration of all IoT connected devices.
The ISP provides plug and play infrastructure to allow a wide variety of devices to be connected and wirelessly controlled from any location. With the capability to collect real-time data from localised surroundings, the ISP enables a range of
devices – from lighting, heating, ventilation,
and air conditioning, lifts, motorised shades, smoke alarms, and security systems – to react and respond intuitively to the environment.
The system is designed for application to numerous building types across divers sectors, including: office, retail, residential, institutional, hospitality, healthcare, industrial, and transportation.■
